Do you rent kayaks?
Yes! Believe it or not, renting kayaks is what we live for!
What do I need in order to rent a boat from you?
Someone over the age of 18 must accompany every party that goes out on the water. We’ll also need to hold on to your ID while you’re out.
We take cash or credit cards…
It’s always smart to bring water, sun protection, snacks and a healthy dose of curiosity!
Please don’t disturb the wildlife and leave the flowers blooming…
Do I need a reservation?
We do the first come first serve thing around here, so come on down and if the specific boat you want is unavailable then we’ll take your name and you can chill out in a hammock or have a picnic in paradise while you wait. It doesn’t usually take too long to get folks out on the water! Weekends are obviously the busiest days to come, if you want to avoid the crowds, try to get here before 11am or come after 3pm.
What are your hours?
During our normal summer season our hours are 9am-7pm everyday.
I’ve never kayaked before. Is it something I will be able to do?
This is the perfect place to learn. The water is calm and the current is subtle, so you don’t need to be a pro to navigate your way around. We want you to come back with a smile on your face. We’ll gladly show you the ropes and give you any tips you might need so that your maiden voyage is a successful one!
Do you offer private lessons?
We sure do! We’ve got professionally trained SUP and kayak instructors here to give you all the info and guidance you need to feel successful out on the water. Just give us a call and we can set something up!
Are the PFD’s (life jackets) and paddles included in the rental?
Yes they are, however… sunscreen, water, snacks, and sun hats are NOT! Come prepared, it’ll just be that much more enjoyable! 😉
Do you have boats and gear for the kids?
Most definitely! There’s no age limit on our end. It’s all about what the parent and child are comfortable with. We’ll work with you to set you up for success!
Is there an age limit?
Our policy is that if you as the parent feel comfortable then so do we. We do have PFD’s for infants. However if you try to send your newborn out in their own boat we might intervene.
Is there a weight limit?
250 lbs. is totally doable. If you’re 300+ please call first and we’ll let you know if we can accommodate you.
Do you sell water, sunscreen, snacks or anything else I might need?
No we do not. Please come prepared to be out on the water in whatever weather the gods decide… 😉
There is a Stewarts about 2.5 miles from us where you can load up on treats.
Can I bring my dog(s)?
Unfortunately we need to ask that you leave your beloved pets at home. Service dogs are more than welcome and small dogs on leashes are okay but we have a strict carry in carry out policy with poop bags.
Please respect the other users of this space and if you know you have a rambunctious animal take them somewhere that they can run. The Kayak Shak is not the place for them, neither is the hot car… THANKS! 😉
Do you rent by the hour if I don’t want to come for the entire 3 hours?
Our hourly rate is $45. We’ll let you decide… 😉
Can we take the rental equipment off site?
We only allow our gear to be launched from our docks.
Do you have restrooms?
We do! Beautiful.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes. But we much prefer cash.
I’ve heard that paddle boarding is really hard. Is it only for really fit strong athletic people with abs like a washboard or can an average Joe like myself do it?
Hell yeah you can do it! Don’t listen to all the hype. It can be as relaxing and fun as you want. If you want to float around and lie down all day that’s awesome, or if you want to work your abs until your nostrils bleed then knock yourself out! It might take a little while to find your balance, so if you’ve never done it before come prepared to get wet!
Is there anywhere to fish at the marina?
We’d love to let you fish from the docks, but we don’t because we can’t have hooks getting stuck in people or in their boats. You’re more than welcome to rent a kayak and get out on the water to fish your little heart out!
Can I bring my own boat and launch it there?
You can launch anything without a motor from our dock. We charge $5 per boat. For those of you who don’t want to spend the money on a launch fee, there’s a free launch a few miles away from us on Saratoga Lake. Located on Crescent Ave, less than 1/2 mile from the light at 9p and Crescent. We encourage you to check it out!
